Construit en 1631 par le célèbre
architecte François Mansart. le château de Balleroy forme avec le village, l'un des premiers plans d'urbanisme qui inspira
d'autres châteaux, dont Versailles.
En 1970. Malcom S. Forbes. propriétaire d'un importait groupe de presse américain. acquit le château qui fut alors restauré et remeublé.
Dans une des dépendances, Malcom
S. Forbes a créé le premier musée
international des ballons, retraçant
l'épopée des ballons à gaz et à air chaud. des frères Montgolier à nos jours.
On peut flâner dans le parc romantique à l'anglaise et les jardins à la française réalisés par Henri Duchêne au XXe siècle. d'après des plans d'André Le Nôtre.

Built in 1631 by the renowned architect François Mansart, Château de Balleroy and its village are one of the first urban plans that inspired other châteaux, including Versailles.
It was owned by the Balleroy family until acquired by Malcolm S. Forbes in 1970, owner of a major U.S. newspaper group, who restored and refurnished the château.
In one of the outbuildings Malcolm Forbes created the first international balloon museum that relates the history of ballooning from the Montgolfier brothers up to the present time.
You can also wander around the English style park and the French forma! gardens created by Henri Duchêne in the 20th century, according to plans by André Le Nôtre.
